Al Green Mastered For iTunes

Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” is easily one of the Reverend’s most popular and recognized bodies of work.  Released in the January of 1972 on Hi Records, it went to #1 on the Soul Albums Chart (now known as the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart) where it stayed for 10 weeks straight.  “Let’s Stay Together” (the single) reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 where it stayed for 16 weeks!  Rolling Stone has ranked “Let’s Stay Together” as the 60th best song of all time.  So when Fat Possum Records contacted me this past winter to remaster the album for iTunes, naturally I was honored, and accepted the job.  I transferred and captured the old masters provided by the label as true to the original album masters from 1972 as possible.  I added some light analog EQ to the low end to bump it up a bit, and increased the overall volume of the master without peak limiting.  Aside from providing the label with correct Mastered for iTunes specifications, my goal was to enhance the album as well as protect the integrity of the original masters.  Hearing Al Green through the studio monitors was really a career highlight for me.  Click here to preview and download Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” album from 1972, Mastered for iTunes.
